Michigan-born and now Nashville-based, Billy Strings is a GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician, who arrived on the scene as “one of string music’s most dynamic young stars” (Rolling Stone).
He’s been awarded Best Bluegrass Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, Artist of the Year at 2022’s Americana Music Awards, Entertainer of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2022 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, Best New Headliner (all genre) at the 2022 Pollstar Awards, Breakthrough Artist of the Pandemic (all genre) at the 2021 Pollstar Awards, named Entertainer of the Year and Guitar Player of the Year at the 2021 International Bluegrass Music Awards along with countless sold out concerts and direct to headline sets at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, JazzFest, etc. A respected figure across all genres, Strings has collaborated with a wide variety of artists.
Billy Strings’ latest record, Me/And/Dad, was released November 18, 2022 via Rounder Records -his first with his father, Terry Barber. The product of a longtime dream, the album features new versions of fourteen bluegrass and country classics that the two have been playing together since Strings was a young child.
Billy respects those accolades and albums but says Me/And/Dad is the cornerstone. When asked where it fits in his catalog, he thinks for a minute and says, “At the bottom.”
“It’s the foundation,” Billy says. “Everything else is sprinkled on top. You can’t get more back-to-your-roots than this.”
